With the Advent of Spring Comes New Opportunities for Hike Doggie Owners

With the Advent of Spring Comes New Opportunities for Hike Doggie Owners. Is it too early to begin talking about the advent of spring? While Punxatawny Phil had his say last week – another six weeks of winter, folks – we here at Hike Doggie aren’t so sure. Let’s take a closer look at a couple of key facts. One, the 10-day outlook for the Denver/Boulder metro area shows quite a thaw beginning next week. And two, we’re now less than a month away (March 9) from “springing forward,” the annual turn your clocks forward initiative which will add considerably more daylight hours to our schedule. It brings to mind a passage from a famous Samuel Taylor Coleridge poem, “Work without Hope,” which reads, “Winter, slumbering in the open air, wears on its smiling face a dream…of spring.”

Why are we getting so jazzed about this seasonal change? Because with it comes a bounty of new opportunities for Hike Doggie candidates looking to free thousands of local dogs from their months-long hibernation.

Yes, it’s time to get up, get out, and get going – because Hike Doggie was built to help our canine companions experience the very best nature has to offer. In abundance! We’ll show our potential owners what’s waiting for them after the snow melts. But first, a refresher – one more reminder about taking proper winter precautions for your pups

Keeping Your Dogs Safe in Wintertime

Even though winter ushers in icy cold air and plenty of snow in our region of the country, we aren’t the only ones who have to bundle up. And it doesn’t mean dogs suddenly don’t need exercise from November to March every year – quite the contrary. While our pups were born with a natural fur coat, they still need protection from the elements in the form of insulated outerwear, paw booties, and keeping a keen eye on how they appear to be dealing with the cold. It’s a good practice to take shorter walks during the warmest part of the day – late afternoon – while also paying attention to the pending darkness. When you return, be sure to rinse and dry their paws, applying balm when necessary. Then you can bundle back up indoors with a warm blanket and a good book.

Now, onto springtime!

A Shift in Climate

Hike Doggie is a franchise opportunity that is welcome from coast-to-coast, not just the majestic peaks we enjoy close to our Boulder headquarters. And when the big thaw begins to occur – typically around the start of March, the weather breaks and ushers in springlike conditions. This is the perfect time to have a Hike Doggie business launch, as the national hiking season typically opens up around this same time and runs straight through September. Let’s talk about business preparation. This is the time of year when outdoor activities pick up with a rapid pace, allowing new franchisees to plant the Hike Doggie flag in their own communities. A good place to get a handle on happenings in your hometown are your online guides and calendars, which will begin to swell with new outdoor outings each passing week. Local dog parks reopen and get re-sodded, and there are plenty of pet-friendly events if you know how and where to look. Focus on establishments and destinations that bill themselves as dog friendly and you can begin compiling quite a list of events where you’re most likely to meet up with your target market – dog parents!

As you can see, springtime really is a period of renewal – out with the (c)old and in with the new. We leave you with this example of preparedness from our franchise Barrett Marcum. He signed on with Hike Doggie in the spring of last year and spent months of cautious preparation getting ready for his big launch. An avid hiker in his own right, he spent months mapping trails and highlighting the perfect routes for his future dog hikes. You can read his inspirational story about becoming a Hike Doggie owner in this previous blog edition.
