Is Your Market Right for a Hike Doggie Franchise?
We’d like to remind everyone that the Hike Doggie’s franchise opportunity is open to all entrepreneurial candidates, provided they meet the criteria and financial obligations necessary to own and operate our business model.
But one of the most common questions we get asked is whether or not a particular market is right for our adventuresome doggie hikes. In this edition of the Hike Doggie Bloggie, we’re going to address a few potential objections that some might have regarding ownership in their local marketplace. In reading through these mitigating factors, you may be pleasantly surprised to discover that your community would in fact be the perfect location for a new Hike Doggie franchise!
Let’s address these mental roadblocks and dispel a few myths that often come up during the investigative process…
Will Hike Doggie Work in My Market?
We’ve had more than a couple of inquiries from candidates who were concerned that their area would be too small to accommodate a Hike Doggie business. Our corporate office recently made the decision to update our territorial reach from 10,000 households to a population of 125,000 for a specific zip code. Because our business model is predicated on adventuresome hikes, any area with natural settings less than one to two hours away is optimal (our hikes are all-day affairs). And the booming pet industry happens to be a coast-to-coast phenomenon.
Are There Enough Dogs in My Area to Support the Business?
Another factor to consider? States with a reputation for having the most devoted dog owners. According to Forbes, Colorado is ranked No. 1 (Yay for us!) and rounding out the top-five are Virginia, Georgia, Alaska, Nevada, and Texas. You can see the full list by following this link.
What About My Local Climate?
Some of us live in really cold climates while others bake under a hot sun more often than not. But because we designed Hike Doggie to be a lifestyle business model, you can open up shop anywhere in the country. In hot climates, you can walk dogs early in the morning. In colder climates, late afternoon is the warmest time of day. Hike Doggie can also be operated on a seasonal basis – possibily in conjunction with another business where, when one is on, the other is off – and vice versa. If weather is too extreme one way or another, Hike Doggie is prohibited from operating in conditions that could adversely affect our doggies.
What About Those Dreaded HOAs?
The centerpiece of our appeal is the big blue dog buses we use to transport our canine companions. But, as we all know, some HOAs prohibit commercial vehicles being parked in front of residences. There are two options here – you can work out a deal with a friend or family member whose residence isn’t subject to this regulation, or perhaps pay a nominal fee to park your Hike Doggie bus at a local business when not in use. Like say, a veterinarian’s office, which then doubles as free advertising. SCORE!
What if I Don’t Have Access to Mountains and Beaches?
As previously mentioned, Hike Doggie was designed as a lifestyle brand. Just because you don’t have the Rocky Mountains as a backdrop doesn’t mean you can’t find adventurous hiking trails in your own vicinity. Ever been to Boston’s Public Gardens? Even though it’s smack dab in the middle of a bustling metro area, there’s enough natural beauty to believe you’re hiking around Walden Pond. Mapping out your dog hiking adventures is one of the most rewarding aspects of owning a Hike Doggie franchise. So don’t be dissuaded. Just get creative. That rhyme? Unintentional.
